About Where?Über Where?
Five animals a day: a silhouette, a name, a world map without labels. One pin. Inside the range is a hit; anywhere else, the miss is the distance to its nearest edge.Fünf Tiere pro Tag: eine Silhouette, ein Name, eine Weltkarte ohne Beschriftung.
Where the ranges come fromWoher die Gebiete kommen
Each range follows the newest distribution map on Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons, the IUCN map where one exists. Only where the animal lives today counts, reintroduced and introduced populations included. The fact after each round comes from its Wikipedia article.
Tips for Where?Tipps für Where?
- Climate first. Sea ice, desert or rainforest rules out most of the map before the continent does.
- Many names carry the place: Bengal, Andean, Nile, Arctic, Cape.Viele Namen tragen den Ort: Bengalen, Anden, Nil, Arktis, Kap.
- A near miss still scores well: the distance runs to the nearest edge of the range, not to its middle.
